Home Made Butter
Craving fresh, homemade butter without the fuss? All you need is well-chilled cream and a few minutes — we made ours with our Kilner Butter Churner, which takes all the guesswork out of the process.
Ingredients
- 1 cup cream (well chilled, a couple of days old)
- ½ cup cold water
- 2 ice cubes
Method
Place the well-chilled cream into your blender or churner. Blend at high speed until whipped. Add the water and ice cubes and continue blending on the same speed for a further 2 minutes, or until the butter particles rise to the top of the liquid.
Pour into a small sieve, drain, then knead the butter with the back of a wooden spoon. Place into a glass dish or jar, cover tightly and chill.
Makes approximately 185g (6oz).
Variations
Add any of the below at the same time as the water and ice cubes:
- Salted butter: ¼ teaspoon salt
- Garlic butter: 1 clove garlic, salt & pepper, chopped parsley (optional)
- Herb butter: 2 tablespoons chopped fresh or dried herbs
